What Triggers an NMS in Ontario?

Not every farm change requires a Nutrient Management Strategy. Here's what specifically triggers the requirement.

Construction Triggers

Building a new livestock barn, expanding an existing barn, or constructing new nutrient storage all trigger NMS requirements.

Livestock Triggers

Increasing the number of livestock on your farm, adding new livestock types, or any change that increases nutrient generation above 5 nutrient units.

Storage Triggers

Constructing, expanding, or modifying manure or nutrient storage facilities.

Not Sure?

If you're planning any changes to your farm operation, it's worth confirming whether you need an NMS. A quick consultation can save you months of delays.
